The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology offers several undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as a large number of minor specializations and a large portion of the university’s General Education Requirements (GER). From the beginning to the end of their educational experience, the Department engages students by hosting the First-Year Writing Program (FYWP) and an assortment of HSS Senior Seminars. Students experience instruction in the FYWP which is designed to build upon students’ written and critical thinking proficiencies to prepare them for both their major course of study and their chosen careers beyond NJIT. During their senior year, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences guides graduating seniors through their Capstone Seminars, a broad offering of advanced liberal arts courses that delve deeply into fields focused on the interconnections between the liberal arts and the applied sciences and engineering. The Department’s faculty have expertise in a range of humanities and social science disciplines and includes internationally recognized authors, actors, and musicians. Because of the faculty’s diverse academic backgrounds, students integrate their knowledge of the liberal arts with science and technology to forge new pathways for dynamic career opportunities.
